Currently our AAUW Branch is not holding in-person meetings or events. We are following state and county guidelines for the health and safety of our community.

September, 2020

Saturday, September 12, 10 a.m. to noon, via Zoom. Welcome to the first meeting of our 2020-2021 program year!  Our guest presenter is Cindy Gobel, Certification and Training Specialist with Washington State Elections. Cindy is also a branch member. “Is Our WA State Election System Secure?  What Are the Cyber-security Challenges?”

 

Tuesday, September 22. National Voter Registration Day.  Our partner, League of Women Voters of Snohomish County, provides information on voting and voter registration.

Thursday, September 24, 12:30 p.m., Edmonds City Park. Member Picnic, limited to 20, please RSVP by emailing Debby Smith, Membership Team leader.

October, 2020

Saturday, October 10, 10 a.m. to noon, via Zoom. Guest presenter is Nancy Sapiro. Sapiro is the lobbyist for AAUW and League of Women Voters in Washington State.  She will talk about Referendum 90 on comprehensive sexual health education in public schools and why AAUW WA State is recommending a YES vote.

You will also meet our college scholarship recipient Jenny Osburn.

November, 2020

Saturday, November 14, 10 a.m. to noon, via Zoom. Working toward Equity and Inclusion, presented  by Jeanne Crevier, chair of the Diversity Outreach Committee for the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County. Jeanne described how the League of Women Voters’ DEI outreach and policy process began with listening. Jeanne also referenced an article from The Pulse podcast, Can You Train People to be Less Biased?

December, 2021

Saturday, December 12, 10 a.m. to noon, Holiday Party. Wear your favorite hat, neck scarf or holiday sweater as you ZOOM to our Holiday Party. We have planned music, conversation, games, and a free raffle, for which you DO need to be present to win. David Little, pianist, will play holiday music and also take requests.

January, 2021

Saturday, January 9, 10 a.m. to noon.  Focus on public policy and legislative session. Our guest speaker is Marilyn Watkins, policy director at the Economic Opportunity Institute. Her topic is “Rebuilding for a More Equitable Future: Priorities for Washington’s 2021 Legislature.” (PDF of her presentation)

Saturday, February 13, 10 a.m. to noon.  Guest presenter is Annette Thomas, professor of nursing at Seattle University. Her topic is “The Challenges of Midlife and Older Women: Menopausal Transition and Nutrition.” View as PDF.

March, 2021

March 7-8, Edmonds International Women’s Day. Our branch is a co-sponsor for this event.

Saturday, March 13, 10 to 11:30 a.m.  “Chinese Farmer Art,” presented by Mary Helen Roberts, online via Zoom. View a video of her presentation.  Followed by a silent auction of paintings from her collection. All proceeds are donations to Foundation A3E, Scholarship Fund.

Wednesday, March 24, Virtual Expanding Your Horizons, Edmonds College with the co-sponsorship of our branch. A celebration of STEM careers for female students in grades 8-12.

April, 2021

Saturday, April 10, 10 a.m. to noon. Annual meeting, election of officers. Discussion of proposed change to degree requirement for AAUW membership. Bring your ideas for our branch 2021-2022 program year.

Saturday, April 17. AAUW WA State Annual Meeting: “Regroup, Reimagine, Recommit.”

May, 2021

Saturday, May 8, 10 a.m. to noon. Introduction of our high school scholarship recipient Jihan Ali. Our guest presenter is Fran Solomon who will speak about her career path and experiences as a woman in science. Dr. Solomon is professor of environmental biology at WWU and founder of Environmental Teaching International. View the video of her presentation (37 minutes).

June, 2021

Saturday, June 5, 10 a.m. to noon, Diversity workshop on Microaggressions facilitated by Aisha Hauser. More information on Microaggressions Workshop.

Saturday, June 12., 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Health Matters: Advocating for Washington Women, hosted by AAUW WA State. Keynote speakers are Dr. Alyson MacGregor and Dr. Dorothy Roberts.
