Saturday, September 11, 10 a.m. to noon, Branch meeting, via Zoom.  “Women as Leaders: How and Why They Take the Reins,” featuring April Berg, WA State legislator for the 44th District.

Tuesday, September 28, National Voter Registration Day. Join our partners at the League of Women Voters and volunteer to do voter registration at local public libraries. Contact Shirley Buono for locations and times to volunteer.

Saturday, November 13, 10:30 a.m., Branch meeting and program. “American Democracy’s Indigenous Roots and Future,” Fern Naomi Renville, Humanities WA Speaker.  Via ZOOM.  “History books teach us that the Founding Fathers birthed American Democracy but do not reveal the indigenous sources of their inspiration nor the matriarchal nature of these societies.”  Co-sponsored with AAUW Seattle.

Wednesday, January 5, 5 p.m. Keep Our CARE Act, (SB5335) a free webinar hosted by ACLU Washington and AAUW-WA State.

Leah Rutman, ACLU-WA Health Care Counsel, facilitates a conversation around access to health care. Mergers and acquisitions between health care entities like hospitals, hospital systems, and provider organizations are prolific in Washington state and can negatively impact cost, quality, and access to necessary health care services. Yet in Washington, these health entity consolidations receive minimal oversight, allowing large health care systems to dictate patients’ access to care including reproductive, end-of-life, and gender-affirming care.

Saturday, January 8, 10 a.m. to noon, Branch meeting. Focus of the meeting will be public policy and preparation for Lobby Day. Sandra Distelhorst, our Public Policy Team leader and AAUW-WA State Public Policy Chair, will update us on AAUW-WA priorities and the upcoming legislative session.

Tuesdays, January 11, 18, 25, and February 1, 7 to 8:30 p.m., online seminar on “Hormone Disrupting Chemicals in Everyday Products,” presented by Dr. Fran Solomon.

Learn more about proposed legislation in our state and nationally, on the use and disclosure of toxic chemicals in beauty and personal care products. Along with attending the seminar, you can add your voice in support of this legislation.

Monday, January 24, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Lobby Day, sponsored by AAUW WA State. A full day of statewide and local advocacy for AAUW legislative priorities.

Lobbyist Nancy Sapiro will provide updates on the 2022 legislative session and a panel of public policy leaders will discuss the bills we are supporting. Meet with local legislators during the week of January 24-28.

Friday, March 25, 5 to 8 p.m., “An Evening of Art for STEM,” Edmonds  Center for the Arts. Fundraiser, curated art show, silent auction, raffles. Money raised will support our scholarships.

April 2022

Saturday, April 9, AAUW-WA State Annual Conference. Focus is on strengthening public education and making it more equitable for girls, students of color and LGBTQ students. Keynote speakers is Jennifer Berkshire, author of A Wolf at the Schoolhouse Door.
