Branch meeting.  Days for Girls is turning periods into pathways by increasing access to menstrual care and education.  April Haberman of Days for Girls will speak about the organization and local and international needs for girls.

April has been working with women, children and youth for over 20 years in various roles, including her work with Days for Girls over the past 9 years. She has been instrumental in building long-term partnerships while in her development position, and her experience in multiple sectors for Days for Girls gives her a broad perspective of the organization.

Saturday, February 10, 2024.  10 a.m. to noon, Edmonds College Snohomish Hall, Room 338. Branch meeting.  Costume designer Diane Johnson will speak on, “And It Has Pockets! The Battle for Women’s Clothing Equality.”  Join Diane to dig into pockets to determine if the battle for equality may still be decided by a few inches of extremely influential fabric.

Diane Johnston is a theatrical costume designer who has spent the past 33 years creating costumes for productions large and small throughout the region. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Costume Design and is a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. She is currently the Theater Teacher at Snohomish High School.

Also, there will be a Professional Clothing Drive at the February meeting.  Bring your freshly laundered, gently used, business professional clothing to the February meeting, and help stock the WSU Everett Business Professional Clothing Closet.

Branch meeting.  Our own Sandra Distlehorst will give us an update on the AAUW-related public policy issues facing Washington and any related legislation to be introduced into the legislature. We’ll also talk about lobby week and how to prepare.

Saturday, December 9, 2023.  11AM.  Holiday Potluck Luncheon and Gift Auction.  Ann McNulty’s house.   Thank you, Ann, for offering your home to us again this year!

Back by popular demand, the “Auction” Gift Exchange. Please bring a wrapped gift of around $20 value to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. You will be giving clues to the contents prior to bidding. Bids will begin at $5.

Items can be from a trip, event, made by you, or even a regift of an item – no white elephants, please. Have fun thinking of what to bring and the clues you can give!

There will also be a raffle, donated by Pat Hooper.

Sunday, November 19, 2023, 2:00PM – 3:00PM, on Zoom.  Registration is free but required.   Our November meeting will be a joint meeting with the Seattle branch. They are hosting via Zoom and features Patricia “Patsy” Whitefoot.

Patricia ‘Patsy’ L. Whitefoot is a member of Yakama Nation, an Indigenous elder, activist and professional educator along with being the traditional food gatherer for the Toppenish Creek Longhouse. She served as the President of the National Indian Education Association and President Obama appointed her as a member of the National Advisory Council on Indian Education. She is a prominent advocate for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, and Indigenous rights.

Friday, October 6, 1:30 pm at Edmonds Waterfront Center.  Initial meeting of Sharing and Caring – a newly sanctioned interest group.  If you would like to be involved this year, please send Ann McNulty an email or call her.

Saturday, October 14, 10:00 a.m. – Noon.  Edmonds College Snohomish Hall, Room 338.  Our October meeting will feature Roxana Gomez of the Washington ACLU speaking on issues facing school boards in Washington .

Roxana Gomez is the Youth Policy Program Director at the ACLU of Washington, where she advocates on education equity, school to prison pipeline, classroom censorship and juvenile justice issues statewide. She most recently served as ACLU-WA’s lobbyist in Olympia. Prior to joining ACLU-WA staff, Roxana worked as a Legislative Aide on the Seattle City Council. Roxana earned her BA in Public Health from the University of Washington and is a lifelong Washingtonian.
